Cathay Pacific Airways has announced widespread delays and cancellations of flights to and from Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday, as Typhoon Wipha approaches the region.
In a travel advisory issued on Saturday, the airline said that all flights scheduled to depart or arrive between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on July 20 will be either delayed or canceled. Passengers affected by the disruption will be rebooked onto alternative services, the airline confirmed.
The move comes as the Hong Kong Observatory prepares to issue Typhoon Signal No. 8, warning of strong winds and heavy rainfall as the storm nears the Guangdong coast. Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors and expect severe weather conditions throughout the day.
Cathay Pacific has also urged travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and use the airline’s website or mobile app for the latest updates.
As per the official advisory, passengers are advised to expect residual delays as operations stabilize once the weather improves.
