Top neo-Nazi falls 200ft to his death while hiking 'Hitler's favourite mountain'

The man, named only as Andreas M, was on his way down the Alpine Path from the summit of the Untersberg Mountain in in a group of 30 when he is said to have slipped on a wet root. The 37-year-old fell more than 200ft down rocky terrain to an area known as the Dongus-Marterl.

His friends, with the aid of two other people climbing the 1,972 metre mountain, called the emergency services but he was pronounced dead. An emergency rescue helicopter was launched and lowered an emergency doctor to the scene of the accident, but there was nothing which could be done, German publication

The chopper returned two climbers who had been with the extremist when he fell and other people were given support by a crisis intervention team. Andreas was treasurer and assessor of the regional association in the small right-wing extremist party known as The Third Way. He is said to have left behind a partner and a baby, born in June.

The Prisoner Aid Friends Circle for imprisoned neo-Nazis and other right-wing groups said: “His death hits us all hard. I ask you to support a little girl who will never know her father.”

The group has so far raised more than 7,000 euros for a memorial. A separate appeal has raised more than 12,000 euros. The Untersberg Mountain was said to have been a favourite of evil Adolf Hitler. He converted the Berghof on the Obersalzberg into a summer residence as he “enjoyed the view”.

As a result of its infamy, it is said to be high on the list for fascists to visit. In 2017 a group of people were spotted performing the Nazi salute and shouting “sieg heil” to passers-by. The next morning, the guest house they were staying in was cleaned and owners found beer mats sporting swastikas.
