star Dr Punam Krishan said her Bollywood dance was an emotional moment for her proud family.

She made history on the long-running show last week. Partnered with Gorka Márquez, the pair performed the show’s first-ever traditional Bollywood number. Punam and Gorka danced their Couple's Choice routine to Bole Chudiyan from the iconic Bollywood movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham for Movie Week.

Motsi Mabuse was left in tears despite saying she promised herself she wouldn't "cry.” Meanwhile, after receiving her glowing feedback, Punam became emotional while talking to Claudia. Punam teared up after the performance and told Claudia Winkleman: "I feel like I would have loved to have seen something like this when I was growing up. And I guess you just can’t be what you can’t see."

Appearing on It Takes Two on Friday with Gorka, Dr Punam revealed her dad cried after watching the meaningful moment. She said to Fleur East: "It was such a 360 moment for my mum. Growing up, one of her biggest concerns was what if me and my sister weren't connected to our culture and the response has been phenomenal."

She added: "There have been people across the country who have never heard of Bollywood that were watching and connected with the music, which is more than I could have ever asked for. It has been reported in all of Indian press so for my mum she was like, "My girls made it" so for her it was just really emotional, my dad was crying, my granny in India watched it on the television there. It's been huge for my family. It really was a special moment."

Fans watching at home were left bowled over by Punam and Gorka's performance. Over on X, formerly known as , one person said last weekend: “I am so glad that Punam got to showcase her culture like that, that performance was amazing.” Someone else added: “Bawled at Punam's dance. So happy for her.” A third penned: “That was SUCH a joyful dance! Punam looked beautiful and the pure joy just shone out of her well done.”

Another fan chimed in and wrote: “Punam looks so happy and beautiful I can't believe how much crying I've done.” A fifth said: “Punam was outstanding! Loved the Bollywood number!”
