Mike Tyson replacement option has already told Jake Paul 'I'll be getting in shape'

Roy Jones Jr has declared that he will "get into shape" should he have to step in for against .

revealed his eagerness to replace Tyson after the initial date for Paul and much was postponed. 'Iron Mike' was set to take on Paul on July 20. However, was put on hold after he was deemed medically unfit to fight after experiencing a flare-up of an ulcer.

One of the greatest pound for pound fighters in the sport's history, previously shared the ring with Tyson for eight rounds in an exhibition match four years ago. However, that bout did not get scored officially. Nevertheless, the former multiple-weight champion has made his thoughts clear about facing Paul and he has revealed that he is ready and willing should he be required.

"I'm kind of thinking about that," Jones told Betway earlier this year when asked about fighting Paul. "I might try and get into shape in case that happens. Maybe I get myself in shape for that.

"I never thought about doing it before, but with the situation of the fight, I think that's a great idea, and I'll be ready and in shape because if the fight doesn't happen, then the ideal guy to substitute in place of Mike Tyson to fight is something I have been thinking about. If the fight is out there, then yes."

Despite hanging up his gloves six years ago, Jones did make a comeback for a clash with former champion Anthony Pettis last September, which he lost on points. The former heavyweight champion also responded to rumours linking him to a clash with Paul's past foe, , and discussed the possibility of facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

"There was obviously the Tommy Fury thing that came up, and then, the other day, somebody asked me whether I would fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in an exhibition, and that's crazy.

"I would jump on it, but now that this thing has came up, it makes sense to get into shape with Jake Paul, and it would be one of the biggest fights of this decade."

Ruminating on who he fancies in the hugely publicised bout, Jones admitted that he can't see Paul beating the man who was once considered the most fearsome on the planet. He also claimed that Tyson will be "too much" for the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Jones told FightHype: "It’s a young lion and an old lion. It’s a great situation for them. It gives Jake a chance with Mike being as old as he is. I think it’s a great opportunity for both fighters but I still think Mike is gonna be a little bit too much for Jake."

Despite Jones' readiness, it's believed Tyson is now fit and healthy enough to take on Paul. The 58-year-old suffered his dramatic ulcer flare-up, which caused him to become dizzy, during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles back in May.

Paramedics then attended to Tyson at LAX and confirmed what had happened but stated he was in good condition after being checked over. Tyson has since revealed that his diet was what caused the flare-up, telling : "I was doing too much bad food and stuff, and I got sick."

As it stands, Tyson and Paul are all set to face-off on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The pair will fight in front of up to 90,000 fans and screened live on . The bout will also take place at heavyweight and will be a professional bout sanctioned by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
