MAFS UK fans slam groom for 'humiliating' bride as commitment ceremony kicks off

Couples were getting candid in the latest instalment of Married at First Sight as they were asked to stay or leave the experiment.

Viewers were quick to run to social media after Wednesday night’s (October 2) episode to discuss an exchange between Polly and Adam as they shared the struggles of their relationship so far.

Relationship expert Charlene Douglas asked the heated question: "What would you do to prevent yourselves from staying in the friendzone?"

Tensions rose when Adam explained that they need to "flirt a bit more" but Polly cut him off quickly, saying "I feel like I do, I get nothing back from you."

Adam defended his comment: "I don't look into Polly's eyes and think 'I really wanna kiss you.'" He continued: "I don't want to upset you but that's just me being honest."

Switching the focus to Polly, Charlene then asked her how she felt about the groom's answer.

She emotionally admitted: “Just rejected.”

Relationship guru, Paul, then interjected with an observation: "Let's just call it what it is, Polly you're physically attracted to your husband. Adam you're not physically attracted to your wife." But Adam didn't budge, so Mel asked more plainly "Do you wanna shag her?"

The experts called out Adam for not answering properly, saying that he had "avoided the question" and viewers flocked to social media to share similar opinions.

Viewers expressed that they felt sorry for Polly with some urging that she should have walked away instead of ‘sit there and be humiliated”

One fan penned: "I don't even like Polly and even I feel bad watching this clusterf*** from Adam. She needs to leave this experiment because he is publicly humiliating her."

Another quipped: "Omg 'minimal level of physical attraction'? Why is she [Polly] sitting there being humiliated."

A third shared: "I don't think Adam is even letting himself get to know Polly because she's not his usual type. Seems like he's so focused on looks and for that reason isn't going to form an attraction to anyone but his 'usual type'."

The couple have had issues surrounding physical attraction and intimacy. In previous episodes, Adam confessed that Polly wasn't his usual type and that may be holding him back.

Despite their differences, they were amongst the couples that opted to stay in their marriages.

Married at First Sight airs from 9pm Monday to Thursday on Channel 4.
