Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres has spent 2024 scoring goal after goal. He has also spent the year being linked with a move to Liverpool, a scenario which appears closer based on an update regarding the lowering of his release clause.

This looks set to be a period of turbulence in the capital of Portugal. The Lisbon-based club appear likely to lose to . Like Gyokeres, he was rumored to be interesting the Reds when they were scouting for a replacement for , though they obviously opted for instead.

Would Amorim’s exit unsettle Gyokeres? They certainly have a strong relationship, with the 26-year-old having delivered a stunning 57 goals and 22 assists in 64 games for his current manager.

It feels plausible that the Sporting boss would like to take him to United with him should he make that move himself, yet according to , there are four other Premier League clubs eyeing a move next summer.

Liverpool is credited with interest in the striker, along with Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea. It's claimed he has a release clause of €100m [$108m/£83m], but there is an 'agreement' in place that he can leave next summer for €60-70m [$65m/£50m - $76m/£58m].

These are interesting times for the composition of Liverpool’s front line. On one hand, it initially looks like Slot has a wealth of options at his disposal.

However, is out of contract next summer and could leave the club. Federico Chiesa and are unable to put their talent to use as often as and its fans would like due to regular injury problems.

Then there’s , whose all-round game looks to have markedly improved at the expense of him having shots. He and Jota have provided six goals from the central forward position this season, compared to eight from Salah on the right and seven from the combination of and Cody Gakpo on the left.

A broadly even split rather than relying on one player is no bad thing. Equally, Slot and the club may decide a more prolific front man is required, especially if Salah leaves. With his release clause dropping, maybe Gyokeres will prove to be that man in time for 2025/26.
