Chelsea are already three games away from nightmare Cole Palmer scenario

Send Push

Cole Palmer has picked up this season where he left off last season - by being hugely influential for Chelsea.

The England star may not be scoring like he did last season - he only has one to his name so far - but he is assisting in the same vein. Four games into the new season, he has four assists to his name, making that five goal involvements in four matches.

He remains Chelsea's most important player, even under a new head coach, and losing him for any stretch of time would be considered something of a nightmare scenario.

That possibility may not be too far away from happening though, as much as it would pain Chelsea supporters. For while Palmer is being influential in terms of creating and scoring goals, he is also getting a bit carried away when it comes to his discipline.

Palmer already has two yellow cards to his name in four matches - making it a caution every other game so far. And if he keeps that up, he will soon be facing a suspension.

Players in the Premier League face a one-match ban for picking up five yellow cards before the cut-off point of the halfway mark of the season. And Palmer is well on his way to that already.

He's not the only one in Chelsea blue to suffer either. Enzo Maresca has four players who are already three games away from a suspension.

Palmer is joined on two yellow cards by Nicolas Jackson - of course - Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana. All four are walking a suspension tightrope with another 15 games to be played before the cut-off point.

Chelsea face West Ham, Brighton and Nottingham Forest in their next three Premier League fixtures, with big games against Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal to come soon after those. Losing any or all of the four would be a big miss for any of those big matches in October and November.
